Spring Hill contracts trash and recycling pickup to Waste Management (WM). The service is on the same monthly statement as your city water and sewer bill, and new residents are signed up for it when they open a utility account with the city. WM picks up trash every week and recycling every other week, on the same day.

Pickup days across the city

Bar chart of Spring Hill addresses by trash pickup day: Monday 3,861, Tuesday 4,055, Wednesday 4,013, Thursday 3,071 and Friday 3,298

Our count of the city’s address list finds about 18,300 addresses, spread across all five weekdays. Tuesday and Wednesday are the busiest routes; Thursday is the lightest. About 9,200 addresses are on the green recycling week and about 8,200 on the gold week.

The rules for your carts

From the city’s trash and recycling page:

  • Each home gets one trash cart and one recycling cart (the yellow lid). Trash in any other container is not picked up.
  • An extra cart costs $9.42 a month, billed by WM. Order one at psmidsouth@wm.com.
  • Trash must be bagged and inside the cart. Crews do not take barrels, brush, medical or chemical waste, paint cans, dead animals, furniture or appliances.
  • Recycling goes in loose and unsorted. WM’s calendar adds three rules: no loose plastic bags and no bagged recyclables, no food or liquid, and recycle only clean bottles, cans, paper and cardboard.
  • Never put chemicals in the trash; the city says they can start fires inside the truck.

Holiday schedule

WM observes six holidays a year. When one falls on a weekday, pickup for the rest of that week runs one day late. When it falls on a weekend, there is no delay. The rest of 2026, from WM’s 2026 calendar:

Holiday Date What changes
Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26 Thursday pickups on Friday, Friday pickups on Saturday
Christmas Friday, Dec. 25 Friday pickups on Saturday, Dec. 26

The other four are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Bulky items, grass and yard waste

  • Bulky waste (refrigerators, washers, stoves, dishwashers, grills, small furniture, exercise equipment) is picked up by appointment for $25 plus processing fees. Book and pay online. The city will not take batteries, tires, paint, chemicals, propane tanks, glass or mirrors, concrete, bricks, roofing, dirt, vehicle parts or trash cans, and there is no bulky pickup on private streets. Cancel by 2:30 p.m. the Friday before your Monday pickup or there is no refund, according to the bulky waste page.
  • Grass clippings and yard waste go at the curb in biodegradable paper bags of no more than 40 pounds. They are picked up the day after your trash day, or the same day if your trash goes on Friday, according to the grass clipping page.

County drop-off sites, paint and hazardous waste

Spring Hill sits in two counties, and each county’s drop-off sites are for its own residents only, with proof of residency.

Maury County (the south side of the city) runs nine convenience centers, open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with a limit of two cubic yards a day. All of them take empty refrigerators and freezers, TVs and electronics, lead and lithium batteries, and up to five gallons of latex or oil-based paint a day, free. The main office at 1233 Lawson White Drive in Columbia takes tires for a fee; call 931-375-6402 first. The centers close Nov. 11, Nov. 26 and 27, Dec. 24 and 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Maury County holds one household hazardous waste day a year; the 2026 event was Sept. 19.

Williamson County (the north side) runs convenience centers open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends, with a limit of three cubic yards a day and a valid driver’s license required. The nearest are the Bethesda center at 4905 Bethesda Road (615-790-2321) and the Thompson’s Station center at 1515B Thompson’s Station Road West, behind the fire station (615-790-9642). Brush must be cut to 3 feet or less.
