Welcome to Spring Hill. The first thing to know: the city sits in two counties, Williamson to the north and Maury to the south, and your county decides your schools, car tags, county property tax and election commission. Check your deed or the state voter lookup if you are not sure.

1. Turn on the utilities

Water, sewer, trash and recycling: City of Spring Hill. Fill in the city’s residential water service application packet and return it to Utility Billing at City Hall, 199 Town Center Parkway, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Meters are read around the 20th, bills go out by the first of the month, and water, sewer, stormwater and Waste Management trash and recycling all come on one bill, according to the city’s utility billing page. Your trash account is set up with your utility account; pickup days are in our trash and recycling guide. Moving out? File the city’s disconnection form.

Electricity: Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE). Use MTE’s start service form, or the transfer form if you already have an MTE account. More on MTE’s start, stop and move page. Some Maury County addresses may be served by another TVA distributor; see our power outages guide.

Natural gas: Atmos Energy. Atmos serves Spring Hill under a city franchise (Ordinance 97-01). Start service in the Atmos Energy Account Center or call 888-286-6700. Smell gas? Leave, then call 911 and Atmos at 866-322-8667.

Internet. AT&T Internet publishes a Spring Hill service page. Other providers sell service by address; check your exact address with each before you sign up.

2. Schools

Two public districts serve the city, split by the county line. See our schools guide for zone finders, letter grades, enrollment and calendars.

3. Driver’s license and car tags

  • Driver’s license: new residents with an out-of-state license must get a Tennessee license within 30 days of establishing residency, at a full-service Driver Services Center, according to the state’s new residents page. Find a center on the state’s locations page.
  • Car tags, Maury County side: the Maury County Clerk, 10 Public Square, Columbia, 931-375-5200, issues titles and plates, collects the county wheel tax and any sales tax due. Titles and renewals: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; closes at 4 p.m. the first Friday of each month.
  • Car tags, Williamson County side: the Williamson County Clerk, 615-790-5712, registers vehicles for new residents.

4. Register to vote

Register online with the state, or update your address if you moved within Tennessee. Your election commission is the county’s, not the city’s; early voting sites and polling places are in our voting guide.

5. Property taxes

You will get two bills: one from the City of Spring Hill and one from your county Trustee, both payable without interest through the end of February. Tennessee taxes 25% of a home’s appraised value. Homeowners 65 or older, or disabled veterans, may qualify for tax relief or the city’s tax freeze; the application deadline for the last tax year was April 5. Rates and contacts are in our property taxes guide.

6. Building, remodeling and permits

Fences, decks, sheds, pools and patio covers all need a city permit, and the city’s sewer moratorium affects new construction. Start with our building permits and zoning guide.

7. Staying informed
