The rule to remember: every city park facility except the dog park requires dogs to be on a leash at all times, and all parks are open from dawn to dark, according to Spring Hill Parks and Recreation’s parks page.

Barkley Dog Park

The city’s off-leash park is in Evans Park, at 575 Maury Hill St., behind a wooden fence. It has a separate fenced area for small dogs, agility hoops and a posted list of rules at the gate (city page). It is named for Barkley, the golden retriever of Kevin Fischer, the city’s Parks and Recreation director from 2005 until his death in 2019; Barkley came to work with him most days and was, the city says, “the lead inspector” while the park was built.

  • Hours: dawn to dark, like all city parks.
  • Next to it: Evans Park has two shelters, a playground, a restroom and Casey’s Castle Memorial Butterfly Garden.
  • Bark in the Park: the city held a free morning for dogs and owners at Barkley Dog Park on Saturday, May 16, 2026, 9 to 11 a.m., with treats and giveaways (2026 flyer). Watch the city calendar for 2027.
